STUART Application

The Arkansas Science & Technology Authority's STUART (Science Teaching Using Audience Response Technology) Program, funded by the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, provides a $6,000 award to Arkansas teachers in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 to purchase a Classroom Performance System™, INTERWRITEMOBI™, and the applicant’s choice of a classroom projector, laptop computer and/or additional CPS systems or Mobi.  Each application should represent a team of teachers including a Lead Science Teacher and 2-4 other teachers who will utilize the new technology in a collaborated effort. 

The deadline for this application is November 30, 2009.

Team Composition and School Need: List the team members (at least two and no more than 4) and the subject they teach. Describe the plan for utilizing the equipment (technology) throughout the school year and explain how this grant will benefit student learning.  Include any need based on school demographics, disabilities or disadvantages. Project Description: Describe how the project is a collaborative coordinated team effort that will enhance curriculum goals.  Describe  how the student response system will be utilized in activities that align with Arkansas Curriculum Frameworks, will meet specific learning needs of the students, or will enhance planned instructional units (Limit: 500 words, font size 10)
  
Teaching Methods: Describe teaching methods or techniques that will be introduced or improved by the use of the student response system. (Limit: 500 words, font size 10)
Project Evaluation: Explain how this project will be evaluated to show effectiveness of the technology on student interest in science and on student learning. (Limit: 500 words, font size 10)

Can be any combination of the listed items but must include 1 CPS Package.		 List the requested items and their anticipated cost (not to exceed $6000).  You must include a laptop and projector unless the classrooms are already equipped with them.  In order to exclude these items, verify that the classrooms in this proposal are equipped with computers and projectors and verify that you will bring a school laptop to the training event.  You must purchase one package (CPS system and a mobi) and can add additional items from the list below:

Award Guidelines: If at any time during the 2009-2010 school year the applicant (teacher) is not employed at the applicant school, the purchased materials will remain in the intended classroom or department. The school will notify the Arkansas Science & Technology Authority (Authority) of another teacher named by the principal to fulfill the intent of the project and to assume reporting responsibilities.

The lead teacher and one team member will attend a two-day training in Little Rock on April 27-28, 2010. Travel, meal, and hotel expenses will be provided by the Authority. The school team will provide a laptop for the training event.

An online report will be submitted to the Authority by December 31, 2010. This report will include a summary of student activities and any other information requested by the Authority Board of Directors.

The award funds may be used only for materials listed in the budget of this proposal.

Should any publications or presentations result from this project, the Arkansas Science & Technology Authority, the National Science Foundation, and the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation should be acknowledged and a copy of the publication should be forwarded to the Authority.

If requested, award recipients will agree to site visits by Arkansas Science & Technology Authority staff or evaluators.
